Software as a Service (SaaS)

Software as a Service (SaaS) is a software distribution model where applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a network, typically the Internet.

Benefits in Maritime

  • Accessibility: Crew and shore staff can access data from anywhere.
  • Updates: Instant updates without manual installation on every ship PC.
  • Cost: Lower upfront capital expenditure (CapEx), moving to operational expenditure (OpEx).
  • Scalability: Easy to add more vessels or modules as the fleet grows.

Examples

Modern Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), crew management software, and fleet performance monitoring tools are increasingly offered as SaaS solutions.
