Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)

"A mandatory operational mechanism for improving the energy efficiency of a ship in a cost-effective manner. Part III of SEEMP specifically addresses the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) reduction plan."

Definition

The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) is a ship-specific document that lays out the strategy for improving energy efficiency. It is required by MARPOL Annex VI regulations.

Components

  1. SEEMP Part I: General energy efficiency measures (e.g., speed optimization, weather routing). Mandatory for all ships > 400 GT.
  2. SEEMP Part II: Data collection plan for fuel oil consumption (IMO DCS). Mandatory for ships > 5,000 GT.
  3. SEEMP Part III: Implementation plan to achieve required CII ratings. Mandatory for ships > 5,000 GT.

Goal

The primary goal of SEEMP is to establish a mechanism for a company and/or a ship to improve the energy efficiency of a ship's operation, reducing both fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
