Officer of the Watch (OOW)
"A deck or engine officer who is responsible for the safe navigation of the ship or the safe operation of the machinery space during their period of duty."

An Officer of the Watch (OOW) is the officer on duty.
Deck OOW
The Deck OOW is the representative of the Master on the bridge. Their primary duty is the safe navigation of the ship, complying with COLREGs (Collision Regulations), and monitoring GMDSS radio traffic. Rank includes Second and Third Officers.
Engine OOW
The Engine OOW is the representative of the Chief Engineer in the control room. They ensure all machinery is running within parameters and respond to alarms. Rank includes Third and Fourth Engineers.
