Voyage Fuel Estimator
Estimate fuel requirements and ETA for your upcoming voyage.
Voyage Parameters
Number of days Aux. Engines will run (sea + port). Auto-filled by voyage duration (sea passage) if empty.
**Disclaimer:** This estimator provides a preliminary calculation. Actual fuel consumption and arrival times can vary due to weather, sea conditions, vessel performance, and other operational factors. Always consult official voyage planning tools and master's assessment for final bunkering and scheduling decisions.
About Voyage Fuel Estimator
Strategic Voyage Planning
Estimating fuel needs is a core part of shipping logistics. This Voyage Fuel Estimator allows maritime professionals to project the total bunker requirement for a specific sea passage, ensuring the vessel has sufficient fuel forced by both safety regulations (SOLAS) and commercial charter party terms.
Key Voyage Formulas
1. Sea Passage Duration:
Duration (Days) = Distance (NM) / (Speed (Knots) × 24)
2. Estimated Consumption:
Total MT = (Sea Duration × M/E Rate) + (Port/Sea Duration × Aux Rate)
3. Tactical Reserve (Safety Margin):
Final Order = Total MT × (1 + Margin %)
Workflow and Best Practices
- Distance: Use the "Great Circle" or "Rhumb Line" distance from your passage planning software.
- Speed: Input the expected average speed (speed through water), considering the vessel's laden or ballast condition.
- Sea Margin: It is standard industry practice to include a 10-15% margin to account for "Heavy Weather" (adverse wind and swell).
- Auxiliary Loads: Remember to account for higher auxiliary engine consumption during port stays or while running refrigerated containers (Reefers).
Commercial Impact
Accurate estimations prevent costly mid-voyage deviations for emergency bunkering and help in calculating the "Time Charter Equivalent" (TCE) for voyage charters.
