Efficient Tank Volume Estimation
This tool provides a quick and efficient way to calculate the volume of a single tank when you don't have direct access to a full digital calibration table. By using linear interpolation between two known points from a physical sounding table, you can accurately estimate the volume for any intermediate measurement.
Calculation Formulas
1. Linear Interpolation Formula:
V = V1 + ((S - S1) / (S2 - S1)) * (V2 - V1)
S: Current measurement | S1/V1: Lower reference point | S2/V2: Upper reference point
2. Standard Mass Calculation:
Mass (MT) = [Volume (m³) × VCF] × (Density @ 15°C / 1000)
How to Use Linear Interpolation
- Current Sounding: Enter your actual tank measurement (e.g., in centimeters).
- Ref Point 1: Find the closest sounding value *below* your current measurement in the tank table and its corresponding volume.
- Ref Point 2: Find the closest sounding value *above* your current measurement in the tank table and its corresponding volume.
- Corrections: Optionally apply Density and VCF (Temperature Correction) to find the standard weight.
Important Limitations
Linear interpolation assumes the change in volume between two points is uniform. For tanks with highly non-linear or complex shapes, using reference points that are too far apart may introduce minor inaccuracies. For professional bunker surveys, always use the most granular reference points available.
