About Advanced ETA Calculator

What is the Ship ETA Calculator?

The Ship ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) Calculator is an essential tool for maritime professionals, providing accurate arrival predictions by considering voyage distance, vessel speed, and complex timezone transitions. It helps deck officers, ship managers, and port agents coordinate vessel arrivals with precision.

Key Maritime Formulas Use

1. Voyage Duration:

Duration (Hours) = Distance (NM) / Average Speed (Knots)

2. Arrival Time (ETA):

ETA (Arrival Local) = ETD (Departure Local) + Voyage Duration + (Arrival Timezone Offset - Departure Timezone Offset)

How to Use This Tool

  • Set Departure (ETD): Input your planned departure date, time, and local timezone.
  • Choose Input Mode: Select "Auto" to calculate duration from speed and distance, or "Manual" if you already have the total steaming time.
  • Define Voyage Parameters: If in Auto mode, enter the total distance in Nautical Miles and expected speed in Knots.
  • Select Arrival Timezone: Choose the timezone of your destination port to see the local arrival time.
  • Review Results: The tool provides the ETA in both Local Port Time and UTC for standard reporting.

Practical Considerations

While calculations are mathematically precise, real-world factors such as currents, weather conditions (Beaufort scale), sea state, and engine performance may affect actual speed. It is standard practice to include a safety margin in voyage planning.
